Do you know the 1977 Disco Hit by the BeeGees , "Stayin' Alive" ???? Well, I hope you do if you encounter someone who is in need of cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR] ! According to a study done by the University of Illinois College of Medicine that tune has just the right about of beats for the proper performance of CPR! Not only can you use it to maintain the rhythm but it turns out it helps you to retain the information in your brain as well! How 'bout that !?!?! The music provides the rhythm at 103 beats per minute. These findings will be presented to this month's annual meeting of the American College of Emergency Physicians in Chicago, Illinois. Ten doctors and five medical students practiced CPR while humming Stayin' Alive and were able to maintain a steady rhythm and when tested five week later still remembered the rhythm pattern. Doctors remind everyone that doing something is better than doing nothing when a person is in cardiac arrest. Push Hard. Push Fast. Get that Blood where it needs to go, pronto! There is another more macabre tune you can use as well~ Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." But anyway, the point is find some time, learn CPR, save a life. Thanks to JoNel Aleccia of MSNBC Health for the original story 16 October 2008. today's quote: "It is good to have an end to journey toward;but it is the journey that matters, in the end." ~Ernest Hemingway. |
